CGI Sliding & Patio Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
CGI sliding and patio door parts in San Antonio typically run $180 to $640 installed, depending on whether you need rollers, a handle set, a latch assembly, or full track work. We stock common CGI-compatible hardware on our trucks and can usually complete the repair in a single visit. Most San Antonio homeowners discover a problem the same way: the door starts dragging, the handle gets loose, or the lock won’t catch anymore. What starts as an annoyance turns into a door that won’t seal against August heat or, worse, won’t lock at night.
CGI builds impact-rated sliding doors designed for coastal wind zones, which means their hardware is heavier and built to tighter tolerances than what you’ll find on a standard patio door from a big-box store. That’s good for storm protection. It also means the parts aren’t generic off-the-shelf items. Getting the right match matters.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s sliding door lines most common in San Antonio include the Estate Collection, Sentinel, and Tribute series. Each series uses its own roller assembly and lock hardware, and within a series, older production years often differ from newer ones. The single most useful thing you can do before calling us is look for the CGI label on the door’s edge or top rail. It’ll show the model name, production date, and glass specs. A photo of that label texted to us saves a return trip.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: CGI stainless steel rollers are not interchangeable across series, even when they look identical at a glance. A Sentinel roller and an Estate roller may share the same wheel diameter but have different housing depths. The wrong roller either binds in the track or sits too low and drags. We match parts by series, production year, and rail extrusion profile, not just by “it looks close.”
When an OEM CGI part is unavailable or backordered, we’ll tell you that up front and offer a quality aftermarket equivalent only if it meets the same load rating and corrosion standard. On coastal-rated doors, cheap aftermarket hardware fails fast in Texas humidity and sun. If we won’t put a part in our own door, we won’t put it in yours.
Signs Your CGI Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- The door drags or takes two hands to move. This is almost always a roller problem. CGI doors weight 200 to 400 pounds. Worn bearings or flattened nylon wheels make the panel grind against the track, and every forced open and close makes it worse.
- The handle lifts but the latch won’t retract. CGI mortise-style handles use a gear mechanism that strips over time. You’ll feel the handle get loose or spin without resistance. That’s the internal cam failing, not the handle screws.
- The door won’t stay locked or the hook doesn’t catch. On CGI impact doors, the locking hook engages a reinforced keeper in the jamb. If the door has settled or the keeper is worn, the hook misses by a fraction of an inch. This is a security issue, not just a nuisance.
- You hear a grinding or scraping sound when sliding. Either the track has accumulated grit that’s eating the roller wheels, or the rollers themselves have seized. San Antonio dust and pollen work into the track fast, and once a wheel stops rolling, it skids and flattens.
- The door sits low on one side or leaves a visible gap at the top. This usually means a roller housing has collapsed or the adjustment screw is stripped. The door drops, the weatherstripping gaps, and your AC bill notices before you do.
If you’re seeing any of these, the fix usually costs less than the frustration of living with it for another month.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we typically see in San Antonio for CGI sliding door parts, installed:
- Roller assembly replacement (pair): $180 – $320 installed
- Handle set with mortise lock (CGI-compatible): $140 – $260 installed
- Latch or hook replacement: $90 – $180 installed
- Track cleaning, alignment, and roller adjustment (no parts needed): $110 – $190
- Full track replacement (bent or corroded track): $340 – $640 installed
The range depends on the CGI series, the production year, and whether we’re replacing just one side or both. Every quote is a written, line-item price before any work starts. No estimate that morphs into a surprise invoice at the door. The part cost is listed separately from labor so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. And every installation is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work isn’t right, we make it right, for a full year, parts and labor, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely do before calling us. First, check the track for debris. Hair, sand, pet fur, and the fine dust San Antonio winds push through door openings will clog a track fast. A vacuum with a crevice tool gets most of it. Second, check the adjustment screws at the bottom of the door. Sometimes a roller has just vibrated out of adjustment. A quarter turn with a Phillips screwdriver can level the door again.
What you shouldn’t try is lifting a CGI door panel out of its track without help. These doors are heavy, and the panel has to be tilted at a specific angle to release the rollers. Get it wrong and you risk dropping the glass unit, bending the frame, or hurting yourself. Also, the tension on the locking mechanism and the fit of the hook into the keeper are precise. If a part is worn, no amount of tightening fixes it.
If you’ve tried the easy stuff and the door still drags or won’t lock, call us at (903) 488-7019. We’ll bring the parts we think you need, confirm the match on site, and hand you a written price before we touch a screw.
FAQs
CGI rollers typically last 8 to 12 years in San Antonio, but homes near open fields or construction zones see faster wear from dust and grit. The heat itself doesn’t kill rollers. Abrasive debris in the track does. If your door is older than ten years and starting to drag, the rollers have likely reached the end of their service life.
Sometimes yes. If the rollers are intact but just out of adjustment, we can clean, align, and re-tension them in about an hour. If the roller housings are cracked or the wheel bearings are shot, repair isn’t realistic. We’ll tell you which situation you have before quoting anything. Call (903) 488-7019 and we’ll give you an honest answer.
Most CGI parts replacements take 45 minutes to two hours per door, depending on what’s being swapped. Rollers usually go fastest. A full handle and mortise lock replacement takes a bit longer because the hardware has to align precisely with the existing keeper in the jamb.
We stock common CGI roller assemblies, handle sets, and latch hardware for the most popular series on our trucks. For unusual production years or less common series, we may need a day or two to source the exact match. We’ll tell you before we schedule, so you’re not waiting around wondering.
If your CGI sliding or patio door is dragging, jamming, or refusing to lock in San Antonio, call Juniper Windows San Antonio at (903) 488-7019. We’ll get you a written price, get the right part, and get the door moving like it should. If the numbers don’t make sense on paper, they won’t make sense on your wall either.
