CWS Sliding & Patio Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CWS-compatible sliding and patio door parts across San Antonio, with most replacement rollers, handles, and lock sets running $180 to $425 installed and full door panel work starting at $850. Most CWS part swaps happen same-day once we confirm your model. What usually tips off a CWS owner: the door starts dragging against the track even after cleaning, or the handle spins without catching. In San Antonio’s hard-water climate, we see track roller corrosion and latch wear show up faster than in drier Texas markets, especially on doors that face south or west sun all afternoon.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS, short for Custom Window Systems, builds three sliding patio door lines we run into most often in San Antonio homes: the 2300 Series heavy aluminum slider, the 7100 Series multi-slide, and the architect-grade 7400 Series. Each line uses different roller housings and different handle sets, so matching the part to the exact series matters. The fast way to identify yours: look at the glass corner or the top rail of the panel. CWS etches the series number into the corner in most cases. If that’s faded, pull the handle. The screw spacing alone tells us a lot. A 2300 handle sets on a 3-15/16 inch pattern; the 7100 runs wider.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for rollers and handles, CWS OEM parts are well-built and worth it if the door is under 10 years old. On older doors, a quality aftermarket roller with a sealed bearing often outlasts what CWS originally shipped, and we’ll be straight about which one makes sense for your door, your track condition, and your budget. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS, which means we match parts without being locked into a single-brand markup.
Compatibility gotcha worth knowing: CWS 7100 Series doors built before 2015 use a nylon-tired roller that’s been superseded by a stainless-steel wheel version. The new version requires a slightly different adjustment screw length. Installing the newer roller into an older panel without swapping the adjustment screw leaves the door sitting 1/8 inch low on the handle side. We keep both screw lengths on the truck.
Signs Your CWS Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- Door drags or grinds even after vacuuming the track. The roller wheels are flat-spotted or the bearings are shot. In San Antonio, sun-baked tracks collect fine grit that acts like sandpaper on nylon wheels.
- Handle spins freely or catches high. The internal lock rod has slipped off its gear or the spring in the latch housing broke. CWS handles use a spring-loaded catch that fatigues after roughly 15,000 open-close cycles.
- Panel wobbles when you push on the glass corner. The lower roller adjustment screws have backed off, or a roller housing cracked. Left alone, the panel misaligns and the weatherstrip starts tearing.
- You can see daylight at the top or side jamb when the door’s closed. The interlock seal has compressed or the panel has drifted out of adjustment. That gap is where San Antonio’s humid spring air sneaks in and jacks up your cooling bill.
- Lock won’t engage, or it engages but slides open with a firm pull. The keeper on the frame side is worn or the hook latch has rounded over. A CWS door that doesn’t lock isn’t just annoying, it’s an open invitation we’d rather not leave on your house.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we charge in San Antonio for common CWS slider work, parts and labor included:
- Tandem roller replacement (both rollers, one panel): $180 to $260
- Handle set and lock replacement (2300 or 7100 Series): $160 to $250
- Full track clean, roller swap, and panel re-level: $240 to $340
- Warped or damaged panel replacement (labor only, panel ordered separately): $450 to $750
- Complete door system swap where the frame is still sound: $850 to $1,800 depending on size and glass package
What moves the price: panel height and width, whether it’s a two-panel or three-panel slider, and the glass package if the panel itself needs replacing. Every quote is in writing before work starts. If the repair fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it. No charge, no argument. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it covers parts and labor.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things yourself: vacuum the track thoroughly and check the adjustment screws at the bottom of the panel for obvious looseness. That’s it. Past that, sliding door repair gets counterintuitive fast. The panels are heavy, the roller adjustment screws strip easily if you use the wrong size driver, and a dropped panel can break glass or take a finger with it. We’ve also seen San Antonio homeowners buy a universal roller kit from a big box store, force it into a CWS track, and end up with a door that binds worse than before. CWS tracks are not universal, despite what the packaging says.
If your CWS door is dragging, wobbling, or not locking, call us at (903) 488-7019. Sean Mackey and our techs carry CWS-specific rollers, handles, and lock sets on the truck, so we usually finish the fix in one visit.
FAQs
Plan on 8 to 12 years for factory CWS rollers in San Antonio’s heat and hard water, and less if the track gets sandblasted regularly during summer dust storms. Sealed stainless-steel bearing rollers generally outlast the original nylon-tired versions by three to five years. Call (903) 488-7019 and we’ll inspect your rollers for free before you spend anything.
Rollers, handles, locks, and weatherstrip are all replaceable parts, and we fix those frequently; the panel itself only needs replacing if the frame is bent or the glass seal has failed. Full door system replacement only makes sense if the frame is bowed or you want a different glass package. We’ll tell you which one you actually need.
Most single-panel roller and handle replacements are done in 45 to 90 minutes once we’re on site. A full panel or door system swap runs a half day to a full day depending on framing conditions. We schedule a live arrival time so you’re not waiting around on a four-hour window.
Yes, we stock CWS-compatible rollers, handles, lock sets, and weatherstrip for the 2300, 7100, and 7400 Series on our trucks in San Antonio, alongside parts for PGT, CGI, and ES Windows doors. If your panel needs custom glass, we order and return for a second visit, and that’s a no-charge return visit if the original repair didn’t hold.
