Windows & Doors Before & After in San Antonio, TX

Talk is cheap in the window business. A sales pitch tells you what should happen. A before-and-after photo shows you what did happen, on a real house, in a real San Antonio neighborhood, with real Texas sun beating on it. That’s why we document every job. Before the first screw comes out, and after the last piece of trim goes up, we photograph it. Not for our ego, for your confidence. Here’s what recent transformations actually look like.

Recent Transformations

Single-Hung to Impact-Rated Casements in Alamo Heights

The problem: A 1960s ranch still had its original single-pane aluminum windows. In August, you could feel the heat radiating through the glass from three feet away. The homeowner wanted something that would cut the AC bill without changing the house’s mid-century look.

What we did: We pulled the old frames and installed PGT impact-rated casement windows. Impact-rated glass is built to resist wind-borne debris without shattering, which matters a lot when a spring storm rolls through. We kept the sightlines clean with a dark bronze frame that reads almost black from the street.

The result: The living room dropped six degrees on the first hot afternoon. The windows open outward with a crank, so the cross-breeze through the house actually works now. And because every job gets a written price before work starts, the homeowner knew exactly what this was going to cost on day one.

Bow Window to Picture Window with Side Flankers in Terrell Hills

The problem: A dated 1980s bow window had lost its seal. Condensation fogged the glass every morning, and the wooden seat below it was starting to rot from trapped moisture. It didn’t frame the front yard, it blurred it.

What we did: We tore out the bow unit and the damaged framing, then installed a single large picture window with two operable single-hung flankers. The glass is low-E, which is trade shorthand for a coating that reflects heat back outside while letting light through. We used a ViewLux picture unit for the center, which gives a cleaner edge profile than older vinyl designs.

The result: The front room finally looks out onto the yard instead of a fog bank. The homeowner told us she’d stopped closing the blinds for the first time in years. New trim, new interior stool, and the framing sealed tight against the San Antonio humidity.

French Door Swap to Insulated Therma-Tru in Stone Oak

The problem: A back patio door had become a weather liability. The old French door leaked air around all four edges, the lockset was wearing out, and the threshold had settled so badly that daylight showed under the sweep. Every time the wind kicked up, you could hear it whistle through the house.

What we did: We pulled the entire old unit, including the frame, and installed a Therma-Tru fiberglass door system. Fiberglass holds up better than wood in San Antonio’s heat-and-humidity cycle because it doesn’t expand and contract the same way. New weatherstripping, a new adjustable threshold, and a proper deadbolt backset.

The result: The door now closes with a solid thunk instead of a rattle. Air leakage test showed a dramatic drop in draft, and the homeowner said the hallway doesn’t heat up in the afternoon anymore. We took before photos, after photos, and the homeowner got them both, because that’s the Relay Standard on every job: a before, an after, and a written price before anything starts.

Broken-Seal Sliding Glass Door to CGI Slider

The problem: A 1990s sliding glass door had a blown seal and the frame was warped just enough that the door would bind halfway along its track. The homeowner was tired of muscling it open with both hands just to let the dog out.

What we did: We installed a CGI sliding door with impact-rated glass. CGI builds heavy-duty aluminum and glass units, the same ones you see on coastal homes that have to survive hurricanes. San Antonio doesn’t get hurricanes, but it does get hail, and it gets hot. This door handles both. We re-leveled the track and set the rollers so the door glides with one finger.

The result: One-finger operation, sealed tight, no fog. The owner’s kids run in and out all afternoon now, and the door doesn’t complain. We also fixed the jamb flashing while we had the old frame out, which means the fix is envelope-level, not just cosmetic.

Jalousie to Fixed + Hopper Combo in Castroville

The problem: Some houses around San Antonio, especially in the older neighborhoods west of town, still have jalousie windows. You know the type: horizontal glass slats that never quite close, let in every draft and every mosquito, and rattle in the wind like a freight train. This one was over a bathroom tub, leaking rain and trapping steam.

What we did: We replaced the jalousie with a fixed frosted glass panel up top and a small hopper vent below it. The hopper opens inward from the bottom, which gives the bathroom ventilation without giving up privacy. We used frosted ES Windows glass for the fixed section.

The result: The bathroom stays cooler in summer, the steam clears in minutes, and the rain stays outside. It’s a small job by square footage, but days of living with a window that doesn’t do its job makes a big difference. Every one of our window projects carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: 365 days, parts and labor, in writing.

Casement to Horizontal Slider Pair in Windcrest

The problem: An old casement window over the kitchen sink was crank-operated and the operator had stripped out years before. You couldn’t open the window at all. For anyone who cooks in a San Antonio kitchen in July, an inoperable window over the stove is its own kind of torture.

What we did: We replaced two side-by-side casements with a pair of horizontal sliders in a CWS frame. Horizontal sliders are simple: they slide left and right on a track. No cranks, no hinges, very little to fail. We kept the same rough opening, so no masonry or drywall work was needed.

The result: The homeowner can now open both sashes with one hand, and the kitchen finally vents the way it was supposed to. We recommended CWS because the homeowner wanted a mid-price vinyl option that still carried a solid warranty, and it fit the opening without a special order.
